PLAGE NORD, Vieux Boucau / France - The ASP Europe 1-Star Men & Women Vieux Boucau Longboard Festival is on Standby. A lay-day has been called on the opening day of the waiting period with insufficient 0.5-foot waves barely breaking in an unusually calm beginning of September along the French coastline.
“Today there's clearly not enough swell on offer and we had to call competition OFF,†Rob Gunning, ASP Europe Tour Manager stated. “Looking at the forecast we're hoping tomorrow will improve and give us an opportunity to launch the event. We also have the last-resort option to extend the event to Saturday if needed.â€
The only European qualifying event this season, the Vieux Boucau Longboard Festival will offer a unique chance to qualify for the World Longboard Championship, as well as crown our 2014 European Champions.
Surfers and event officials will reconvene Friday at 8am to reassess conditions.
